Physical Description: In human form, Aponi is a thin woman who stands at 5'9" tall. She can give off an impression that she is excited or nervous as she tends to fidget. Weather she is rocking on her heels, playing with her hair, or tossing a ball in the air, she is constantly moving. Her hair is very long, falling past her waist and is jet black. It is naturally straight, but she will occasionally curl it. When she is working, her hair is woven into a tight braid or pinned up out of her way. Her eyes are a deep, rich shade of brown that reflect whatever emotion she is feeling. Her clothing style is best described as comfortable and causal. She may add a bright color or a large piece of jewlery to an outfit to make herself stand out. She often wears moccasins on her feet and in the summer she likes to wear cropped tops that show off her naval piercing. She has a twin sister and while the two are identical, there are some differences, for example Aponi weighs slightly less than her sister. Those who know them well can usually tell them apart. If a medical professional were to take an x-ray of Aponi, they'd notice larger than normal lungs and kidneys. This is a side effect of her were nature - sea otters have a large lung capacity that allow them to be buoyant and special kidneys that allow them to filter salt water. In otter form, Aponi is four feet long and weighs 60 pounds. This is in the average range for a female sea otter, but it does make her considerably larger than her river otter siblings. She has deep brown fur with sliver speckles. The fur on her face is a lighter color than the rest of her body. She has a short tail and webbed feet. Personality: Aponi tends to be cheerful and optimistic, perhaps even overly enthusiastic about her daily life. On first meeting her, she may seem silly or even immature. The otter in her is energetic and loves to have fun; she enjoys running around, playing games and sports. When she slows down enough to have an actual conversation, she is very lively and animated with large gestures and an excited tone of voice. She won't hesitate to strike up a conversation with a friend or even a stranger. Those conversations will usually drift from topic to topic at random. She has a quirky sense of humour and enjoys trading places with Mausi, her identical twin sister to pull pranks. This works best with strangers. She has a low self-esteem which is often hidden by her extroverted nature. Beneath her playful exterior, Aponi is a very loving, caring woman. She has a strong, natural maternal instinct as result of being a born were-otter. Female sea otters are the sole caregivers of pups, and will even care for orphaned pups. Since Aponi has no children of her own to care for, she tends to extend this maternal instinct to those around her. It makes her generous and compassionate. She's the first to give support to a person in need. Her maternal instinct also makes her meddlesome, offering well-intentioned but unwanted advice and help. This is especially true when she is around her younger siblings. She can't stop herself from wanting to spare them from any pain in life, even if it means she has to be bossy, even over-bearing. If anything or anyone were to threaten her siblings, she would become fiercely protective of them. Sexuality: heterosexual History: Aponi was the first child born to her parents, Joseph and Kara Snow. Her twin sister, Mausi followed immediately after her and in the years to come, seven more siblings followed. Aponi, Mausi and almost all of her siblings were born were-otters like their father. The twins developed their own 'twin language' as infants and were extremely close. Mausi was the first to walk and say her first words. Until Aponi caught up to her sister, Mausi would often speak for her. When Aponi did learn to speak, it was joked that she would never stop. Even as a toddler, she was showing signs of her enthusiastic personality. As the twins became older and entered school, Aponi realized that some of her friends had trouble pronouncing her name and the children who weren't her friends made fun of it. She was given the nickname was 'Raven' by her friends, because of her black hair. They didn't know she was an otter. Her family found the nickname to be amusing and they began to use it too. She was a very athletic child and became a champion swimmer and diver. Most of the friends she had, she met through these sports. At one diving competition, she noticed a coach angrily yelling at one of her top opponents. Aponi purposely made a mistake in her dive so that the other girl could win. It was a nice thing to do, but letting her own team down cost her many of the friends she had made. She was ostracized from her clique and developing new friendships was difficult for her. Her bubbly, loud, personality made her stand out in a way that lead her to be mocked for "trying too hard". Being unpopular was hard on her as otters are social creatures and prefer groups. Around this time, Aponi struggled academically. She was lonely and classes at school bored her, until she took a course on Native American history. This was a subject that interested her as a Native American, especially since she had spent time with her family visiting with relatives that lived on a reservation in Mt. Pleasant. In Aponi's history class, one of the topics studied was the "boarding school system" where Native American children were forcibly sent to live at schools that were designed to rob them of their culture. As a Native American and a student, Aponi found that part of history to be horrifying. She wanted to do something in honor of those who were separated from their families and endured mistreatment during that time. One of the things she leaned was that in these so-called boarding schools, children had their hair cut short or even shaved. For the boys this was done as matter of cultural assimilation. And for the girls, it was done to shame them as a form of punishment when they misbehaved. Aponi decided to grow her own hair long, and has kept her hair long ever since as a form of remembrance. She also donated money to a fund for residential school survivors. Aponi became a good student in that one history class, and learned to find other classes that interested her, such as environmental science. She is passionate about the environment, especially clean water. She was never the top student at her school, but her grades did improve. While in high school, Aponi worked in her family's sweets shop, usually in the back. She had a tendency to fidget and worried customers would be annoyed by it. She became an excellent baker and chocolatier, and developed a talent for creating items for people with special dietary concerns, such as gluten-free, vegan, no sugar added, allergy free, etc. She possessed a sweet tooth herself and felt no one should have to go through life without indulging in the occasional treat. In her final year of high school, Aponi informed her parents that she planned to travel after graduation. They assumed that she wanted to spend more time visiting the relatives in Mt. Pleasant. It came as a shock when Aponi explained that she wanted to travel abroad. She had never spent time away from her family before, but she had her heart set on it. With her savings and some help from her parents, Aponi's dream became a reality. After high school, she backpacked around Europe. Her favourite places to visit were France and Switzerland, where she observed baking and chocolate making from the masters and used that experience to perfect her own skills. She returned home and became a full time employee in the family owned sweets shop. She also discovered that once she was away from the people who teased her in high school, she actually liked her name - Aponi. But by this time, everyone was used to calling her Raven. She decided to keep the nickname. Aponi made more friends when she returned home, finding it much easier to be herself when not dealing with high school issues. Her love life has not been as successful. Sea otters do not mate for life, however Aponi was raised by her parents who were river otters and did mate for life. They were her role models on what a loving relationship should be. She always hoped to find her one true love, settle down and start a family of her own. She was never successful. Over the next few years, Aponi moved in and out of her family home a number of times. She has never lived alone, but has lived with boyfriends, always hoping to find the elusive "Mr. Right." Eventually, she ends these relationships and returns to her parents home. Since the Light of May: Aponi found the light of May to be very exciting. She wanted to announce that she is a were to the world, by telling everyone that she's an otter, whether she knew them or not. She held back because of her family's legitimate concern over hunters. The last thing she would ever do is put them in harm's way. She did tell one close friend and was shocked when her friend was unable to accept it, and the friendship ended. As time passed and it became clear how prevalent supernaturals were, Aponi became interested in other races. She was surprised that there are so many different types of supernaturals in the world and would like to meet one of each type. (With the exception of demons) Special Skills/Abilities: Aponi is a highly skilled chocolatier and baker. Personal Weaknesses: Fidgets: It is very difficult for Aponi to stay physically still. She will find some way to move, from tapping her fingers on the counter at work to pacing around a room. Impulsive: Aponi has a hard time filtering her thoughts. In the middle of a conversation, she is likely to blurt out random thoughts that occur to her. If something looks like fun, she'll do it, usually without thinking about any consequences. When faced with a decision to make, she will usually go with her first idea, even if it's not the best choice for her. She will also give her opinions easily, and follow the advice of others blindly. Insecure: Aponi was ostracized in high school. As difficult as that is for any teenager, it was magnified by her inherent drive to be a social otter. The sting of being left out and teased, stayed with her even as a adult. She carries the fear of being alone with her and holds many insecurities. She can be overly sensitive as a result, interpreting simple comments as insults. She also turns into a people-pleasing pushover when she is worried about losing a friend. These insecurities tend to disappear around her family. Whatever happens, she knows they wouldn't abandon her. Serial Monogamist: Unlike river otters, sea otters do not mate for life. They do mate seasonally. Aponi has had serious relationships but they have always ended with her dumping they guy, seemingly out of nowhere. She worries that she will never find 'the one' or be able to stay with him even if she does. She has left a trail of confused ex-boyfriends behind her. Sweet Tooth: Aponi works in a bakery. She is often tempted to over-sample her products. It can be hard to fight that urge, resulting in frustration for her. Prone to Loneliness: Aponi has a difficult time being alone, and keeping her mind occupied without having another person to interact with. She finds being alone depressing and frightening. She had travelled by herself but even though she is 26, she's never lived on her own. Meddlesome: Aponi wants to help everyone around her during their difficult times. While her intentions are good, her actions can turn others away. She can be nosy, wanting to know everyone's problems. When she discovers another person's problems, she instantly wants to help solve them, whether they want her help or not. This most often results in giving unwanted advice and unwanted, even counter-productive, help. Personal Strengths: Energetic: Aponi rarely gets tired. She is very physically active, participating in sports, and other games such as laser tag. She maintains an vigorous exercise routine. It helps her to maintain her figure despite her fondness for sweets. Open-minded: Aponi is able to accept others for who they are and listen to their points of view without judgement, though she may give advice. Having been teased throughout her childhood and adolescence, she understands the pain of being labelled unfairly and she makes an effort not to put anyone else through that. Cheerful and optimistic: Aponi has a passion for life that comes through in everything she does. She is able to see the bright side to most situations (except loneliness). Were otter: Aponi has the usual advantages of being a were - enhanced sense, strength, agility and rapid healing. She is also an excellent swimmer and possesses a strong maternal instinct as a result of being a sea otter.
